Yesterday we woke up to a few inches of snow on the ground! How beautiful it was... but what a mess it can make! I had a doctor's appointment at 9:15 that morning. Before leaving, I had to drink a sugary drink so my blood sugar tolerance could be tested. Drew was going to Mother's Day Out so Trey was dropping him off at 9:00 and then meeting me at the OB's office. Area schools had been postponed by a couple of hours, but we thought the highly traveled roads would be okay and would surely be sanded by now. We took off, and a 15 minute drive for me turned in to a 45 minute mess. The highway was completely iced, and under construction. I couldn't tell where the lanes were or where the side of the road dropped off into rebarb construction! Snow was piled up on the roads and people were going between 2 and 10 miles an hour.
As I was ice skating along in the car, I started to slide and ended up stuck on the side of the road in a snow bank. I tried to get out, but to no avail. To top it off, I had no cell phone because I had left my charger in College Station and my cell phone was already dead. Luckily a man walking along the side of the road was out helping many of the stranded motorists. He offered to push my car out when someone else came along to help him. Just a few seconds later a police officer pulled up, stepped out of his car, and fell flat on his backside. He and the helpful stranger pushed my car out of the snow and back on to the road. I thanked them, and then slowly skated off toward my appointment.
I was very worried about getting to the OB's office soon, because my blood sugar had to be tested 1 hour after I drank the sugary syrup. I had held my nose and swallowed it down around 8:30, so I needed to get there by 9:30. I slowly arrived around 9:35 to an empty waiting room. They took me right back and drew a couple of vials of blood. They took my blood pressure, and surprise, surprise, it was high. They decided to take it again later, and it was normal. My appointment went fine, baby is measuring on target, heartbeat is great, etc. But Trey still hadn't shown up! I was a bit worried.
Just as my visit was winding down, Trey and Drew both showed up. Evidentally when Trey went to drop him off, there was no one at Mother's Day Out, so he brought Drew with him. The three of us went to breakfast at IHOP (a usually less than 5 minute drive that took over 15) and ate. I then took Drew to Mother's Day Out at 12, Trey went to work, and I went home. What a day!
Later that afternoon after I picked up Drew, we played in the snow. He enjoyed sliding down his slide and finidng his toys that were hidden in the snow. He ignored the snowballs that I threw at him though. We then went inside and made sugar cookies. Drew picked red frosting, but they ended up pink.
Trey's classes got cancelled for the evening due to the weather, so we ate at McDonald's happy meal night near the house. It was nice to relax and enjoy the evening with my guys after a stressful morning.
