Wow! This has been a busy (might I add a bit stressful) week. We have had so much going on...
We went to the Houston Children's Museum this week with a bunch of friends. The Eby girls, Adams kids, and Abbott girls ventured into downtown Houston led by their fearless Houstonian native (me). Let's just say I won't be nominated tour guide of the year anytime soon. I followed my newly acquired (early) Christmas present, a Magellan GPS, through the streets of downtown. I am definitely familiar with all the freeways of Houston, given I have driven them frequently to and from College Station, and other places, but downtown is a little different. I looked up the closest fast food restaurants to the museum (or as Drew says, the MOO-seum), and found that there was a Chick-fil-a about a mile away. So we planned to stop there when we got into town.
Well, it turned out the restaurant was actually on the 3rd floor of one of the building downtown. That wasn't going to work because we would have to park 2 large vehicles on the street, haul 9 kids (a 4 year old, a 3 year old, three 2 year olds, a 16 month old, an 11 month old, a 9 month old, and a 2 month old) on to the streets of downtown and up into the building with only 4 women to guide them.
We drove on until I saw a McDonald's where we pulled over and all got out to eat. Turns out this McDonald's was across the street from the downtown Houston bus station. If anyone has ever experienced that area, then you know you don't want to be a single woman there with a bunch of little kids. In fact, Lydia pointed out that a Happy Meal wasn't even listed on the menu at the McDonalds. So we held our kids close, choked down our/their food, and ran out fast. (We also met up with my Mom here too).
Then we continued on to the Moo-seum. Everyone had lots of fun. Garrett (9 mo.), Paige (11 mo.), Virginia (16 mo.), Olivia (2 yrs.), and Sophia (2 mo.) all enjoyed the Tot Spot while Drew, Henry, Celeste, and Alexis explored other areas of the museum such as the Farm to Market, Art puzzles, face painting and more. It was great!
When it was time to load up, we once again followed the GPS. Problem though, the GPS kept directing me to an on-ramp that was closed for construction! I couldn't get away from it. Then we decided to find the HOV lane to get out of town (because we highly qualified for the HOV!) because traffic on 290 is attrocious in Houston that time of day. We drove all over the place trying to find it- we even called Trey and found an address for the entrance. Finally we found it, and we were off! When we got home, all the mommies decided our next venture out would be a mommy only night!
